Fox 40 Classic Whistle

I use these whistles for search and rescue, hiking, as well as on my PFD for boating. They are very loud and because they are pealess, you don't have to worry about the pea freezing or getting stuck. The whistle just works and is one of the loudest I've heard. Don't use something else just because these are a bit expensive...your life may be in the balance. I bought this most recent one to put on my daughter's PFD for kayaking. I will keep buying more for additional applications as I need them.

I spend a lot of time traveling outside and rely on my whistle to single for help if/when I need it. After trying several different rescue whistles the Fox 40 is my favorite. It's made of a durable plastic that doesn't break or chip easily, works even when wet, and is extremely loud. Back in my days as a lifeguard, these are the only whistles I used. Once one masters the technique, these whistles are incredibly effective. The should the emit can be heard at surprising distances and carries well even in crowded, noisy areas. Durable, easy to clean (soak in soapy water or throw it in the dish washer), and comes in a variety of colors.

I love these whistles and have purchased several of them. I keep them on all of my sets of car keys and backpacks in case of emergency. I would totally recommend this whistle.

Very loud. The volume ranges from very loud to painful. Unlike some whistles, a gentle puff does not get you a subdued whistle, so it may not be good in some applications like refereeing sports or any kind of use indoors. However, it's perfect if what you need is to be heard at long distances, like a search and rescue scenario.

It's a whistle. It's supposed to be good. It was affordable. I hope I'll never have to use it, but now at least I know I have the option. Which is exactly why you need one, too.

I've been carrying a flat pea-less whistle for a few years. Never was really satisfied with it's tone or volume even though it is Coast Guard approved. I bought this as a back-up but I like the tone and volume much better than the other one. This has been promoted to primary whistle.
